Used Sync forever and with Connect now I feel very much back at home, changed the font size and theme and it feels very similar.

Still, great that both and others are progressing so quickly, it’s incredible how far Lemmy and apps has progressed in a few weeks!

Gotta say as a long time sync user, I just downloaded Connect to try and it’s really good! Feels somewhere between Sync and Boost

Using Connect right now. What I really care about is a Frontpage widget like RIF. I’m holding open real estate on the main screen of my Android. Basically the first dev to have that and a decently usable interface (bonus points for a “black” mode) gets the space :)

Since you’re the dev, maybe you can answer a question I have. I just downloaded Connect and noticed if I select a post from a different instance, it won’t let me comment or anything saying that I’m not logged in. Is that a bug or am I just not doing something right?

I can comment here using Connect while being logged in on another instance.

Edit: When you go to the sidebar (Ξ), you should see your account selected at the top. Is it there? Further down, you should see settings. Under settings, you should see your instance selected. Is it the right one?

I figure out what I was doing wrong. I was tapping on the picture which was taking me to the original URL (which was on lemmy.ml) instead of opening it up through lemmy.world.

Now I just have to figure out why I can’t see your comment through Connect. I see the comment in my inbox and when I select it I get taken to this post but I don’t see this comment or any of the comments in the chain starting with my original comment. I had to post this reply through the web browser.

I appreciate your work on Connect. I used every lemmy/fediverse app there is on Android and have to say that the experience on Connect has been great. Unfortunately, my loyalty does lie with Sync, and as you said in your comment, Sync still had more features than Connect does currently. I’d be glad to donate for your work and helping me ease into the fediverse while I am waiting for Sync. However, I don’t see an option to donate to you in app or anything like that. If you let some of us know, I’m sure there’d be more people other than myself willing to contribute and show their appreciation of your app.

Thank you for Connect! I was using Join for Reddit, and Connect works like a charm for me. There are a couple of bugs, but I’m happy as can be. I know you work hard on Connect. “Tap tap hold and slide” would be nice for zooming in pictures, btw. Keep up the good work. I’m pretty sure that Connect is the right one for me.

In all seriousness, is the Dev using the build date as the version number…? July 8th, 2023 at 12:34am - vYY.MM.DD-HH.mm

Unusual approach for sure as you have no clue if it is a major version change or minor bug fixes.

Using the date as a version number for an application that gets frequent updates is very standard. Most users will be expected to be on the latest version always.

        There’s even a website for it https://calver.org

Generally speaking, I find it easier and more intuitive to use. We use calver at work bc it seems pointless to identify if every week’s release is major / minor / patch etc. My thought is the latest is the greatest - if something goes wrong, it’ll be fixed in a later version ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Interesting, I always found semantic versioning pretty useless, except for knowing that a new major release breaks existing APIs

It’s great to get a quick context of the size of the change expected. That does require the developer numbering the release to appropriately version it though.

I’ve gone through the whole cycle of grief with the enshitification of Reddit and finally come out really optimistic about the future of the web.

Sync for Lemmy is definitely a huge part of that. I’m overwhelmed with how much energy there is behind this.
