Ok the title is slightly misleading… I’ve known this woman for several years through local establishments (and before this sounds creepy, I’m also a woman and not interested in relationships at all, plus she’s happily coupled) I typically only go when she’s working because she and I get along well. But it’s not a place I go to often. She has a biology degree, and I’m a science communicator, and neither of us can get any decent work in the rural area we live.

But beyond knowing basic things about her, likewise for her, we never really had a conversation. But today we did. Bar was slow, I wasn’t in a hurry (walking home in the rain after dropping my car at the mechanic). So we actually chatted. For several hours. And it flowed well.

And I gave her my number and she texted me so I’d have hers. It’s great. She lives like a block from me. We can go for walks and shit around our small town - her suggestion! She even gave me a ride home. Pointed out her place on the way. I’ve walked past it dozens of times, and she walks her dog past my place.

I am just thrilled and don’t have anyone to share this with. It’s so hard to make friends as an adult. Even if it doesn’t pan out, this is a social high I haven’t had in a long time.

Good for you! Honestly it’s very hard to make actual friends as an adult. Even if you’re extraverted, lasting ones rarely come along.

Thank you, genuinely. I am definitely not an extrovert. I generally go out to just exist in public, to vicariously extract social experiences through those around me… but when I went today it had been 30+ hours since I’d slept so I was wired on cortisol. I was a chatty mofo. (Good outcome to a bad situation. Also got a fucking great latee before I’m normally awake, so today was a good day in spite of being a bad day) 😊

Where the hell are we at, as a society, that we feel the need for these kinda qualifiers?!

    Kudos though OP :)

I think this was the part where things might have gotten creepy

Aha! So you’re a lesbian homewrecker who’s only interested in casual sex!

    (I knew it)

Congrats OP. Friends are few and far between these days.

Thats good, congrats, it does get difficult to start an actual friendship, there are a lot of people i talk with but I dont use friends as those relationships because it hasnt evolved to that aspect. Maintaining them is very important though, otherwise one side can get burnt out with putting in more of the effort. All the best to your continued success.

I have lived in this town for 11 years and have not made any friends. No work friends, no friends I have met otherwise. It doesn’t help that I hate living here and this town sucks.

That said, I am very happy for you!

You should think about moving. I grew up in a pretty dull town, where there’s only conservative assholes. Turned out, moving to a bigger city did wonders to my mood.

Good for you! I hope you go on many tiny adventures together. There is something so comforting in having a nice neighbor friend.

Yeah, same happened to me. Been recently talking to someone and it flowed well. Miracles happen wherever you’re ready for them.
