I’m currently using Memmy and it’s giving me Apollo vibes but I’m open to testing out other apps ^^
Mlem. Early but good :D
Jerboa
Same. I was using liftoff for a bit while they worked out the kinks during the 0.18 upgrade, but its been great, feels really intuitive to me.
Im coming from reddit via RiF, and I feel like Jerboa checks a lot of the same boxes for me.
Yeah Jerboa was rough for a bit there but it’s been working really well for the past few days.
I love Jerboa but is there any way to make the images in people’s comments (not original posts) larger?
Don’t think so.
Currently liftoff, though I still have jerboa installed for some things.
I have a lot but I use none. I mainly use the web version, also on mobile.
Is this because most admin/mod features don’t exist in the apps yet?
That’s been my reason for switching to desktop now and again.
Same, everyone here chasing after the perfect app, but I find the mobile web interface to be pretty damn incredible.
Heh, you didn’t witness the old web UI that used sockets. It was nigh unusable on popular servers.
I definitely did witness that myself, but that only happened when browsing All for me. Thank God that bug was fixed in 0.18.
Well, it makes sense; most of the new Lemmy crowd hopped on after the Reddit 3PA disaster.
This has been asked dozens of times in the past days and weeks. I wish people would use the search function.
Long term I hope we move a part of this to the wiki. https://joinfediverse.wiki/What_is_Lemmy%3F
To still provide something helpful for the current thread: https://lemmyapps.netlify.app/
This is a developing situation and these apps are being updated sometimes multiple times a day. Looking up threads from even a few days ago, you might miss a game changing new feature. Let’s not discourage engagement here.
Yeah I agree. That is so Reddit thing to do.
True and legit. My intention was not to discourage engagement. The other side also exists. Not everyone is interested in weekly updates about app developments. Repeated content and uninteresting content is another way to discourage engagement. There are better places for these topics, such as
The post as it stands is very low effort and quality.
“I’m currently using Memmy and it’s giving me Apollo vibes but I’m open to testing out other apps ^^”
This can easily be answered by using the search function, or simply by trying out another app. Others already talk about the same topic every day.
Fair points. Directing them to the appropriate community is best.
As a kbin user do these apps work for that or not? I chose kbin because i prefer the web UX.
Kbin doesn’t have an API yet so the apps in development for it are scraping thier own. Artemis is looking incredibly promising and the dev is great.
I’ve been using a firefox shortcut for Kbin and it’s been working great though in the meantime (mobile).
I’ve tried using the firefox shortcut on my phone, and it’s less than great (imho). I can’t type replies, it goes all janky, freezes up, won’t go back to the home page, etc. Virtually unuseable.
Ok this works well for me. Easy to read and navigate. Perhaps try again, maybe they fixed it.
What device are you using? Perhaps its something with my google device not wanting me to use firefox.
Working fine for me. Galaxy S23+, latest Firefox release.
I am currently using Jerboa.
Started with it, tried every other app, came back to Jerboa.
Liftoff is another app that is very functional. But I don’t like the design and don’t size of the comment section can’t be changed for now.
Using Thunder here. It has been okay so far. Probably gonna give Jerboa a try soon. I prefer to get my apps from F-Droid so I haven’t given other apps much of a look yet.
wefwef and Liftoff until Sync arrives.
I keep switching apps all the time. Right now, I’m trying out Wefwef vs Thunder. They are very similar and I really like both. However, I think I slightly prefer Thunder. It feels a little bit more fluent to me, as it is a native app and it comes with a few more options, like being able to put the thumbnail on the right. I really like that because now I can open pictures without opening the comments. It also does a few things a little bit more sensible in my opinion, esspecially the back button. For instance, in Thunder the back button does what I expect it to do. But in Wefwef It is a bit buggy as it often goes back on the background, without closing a full screen image first. The theming also feels a but more at home on Android, while still being very similar.
Both are great options though and both have it’s pro’s and cons. I’m also trying out Pulse for Squabbles (so not Lemmy), which is also very neat and very similar. Makes the experiences a bit more consistent.
I’m also waiting for both Sync and Boost. I’m really curious in how both of those Ferdiverse versions turn out.
Liftoff is my favourite so far, but every time I use it I get the theme song from the old Australian kids show of the same name stuck in my head and it drives me insane.
I used Boost for a couple of years and will almost certainly be switching back to it as soon as it’s available, it’s set to download immediately from the play store when it releases.
Thunder on Android
I have Memmy, Liftoff, Mlem and wefwef. Like the interfaces of Mlem and wefwef the best so far. One app doesn’t have it all yet and if there’s a hang up with one I can try another!
I’m giving wefwef a go since there seems to be more notification options, messages and such available than that of memmy
Wefwef right now. I have been pretty pleased with it. Not sure who the the developer it but damn they’ve been rolling out updates daily. Sometimes multiple times a day. I don’t think the person is sleeping at this point.
It’s open source and there’s a ton of open PRs. Lots of people want Apollo back.
Connect for lemmy has a pretty nice clean look that can be customized to look a lot like RIF. Been enjoying it so far.
WefWef app on Android. It’s been pretty great and seeing it get updates every day with new improvements is nice.
I switched back to Android right before Apollo came out so I never had experience with that. This is supposedly just like it with fewer features. Even so, I can see why people loved Apollo so much if it resembled WefWef even slightly.
