Bad news for those planning to activate Windows 11 with a Windows 7 or 8/8.1 key: users noticed that the latest Windows 11 preview builds no longer allow activation with old license keys.
That’s true, but I’m not sure if the risk of Microsoft knowing exactly what machines have hacked keys while also having complete control over the account that unlocked your computer at boot is worth it.

Well it was nice as in it was permanent, it got attached to your account and you could simply reinstall and so on without having to setup anything.

And also, it got you attached to your account, and Microsoft loves that you use an online windows account.
