Rep. Matt Gaetz is planning to attempt to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy from the role this week after the House leader worked with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown on Saturday.

Good. The extremists can’t get the votes for one of their own, and they won’t vote for a “moderate” R…

It’s not good for those who live in the US. A speaker needs to be elected before they can pass anymore funding.

Well… when Teddy Roosevelt failed to gain the support of the Republican Party, he formed the Progressive party and republican voters were split between him and Taft, leading to Woodrow Wilson gaining the presidency.

That’s great for the future. But the government needs to operate prior to that time. If there is no speaker, then there’s no vote for keeping the government open past mid November

It will be necessary for the whole refusal to compromise on anything approach to actually crash the system before the Republicans who have gone along with it to avoid being primaries to change. While I would have hoped that something less drastic would trigger the epiphany, it kind of looks like a complete implosion will be necessary for the party to stop giving them ridiculous power like only requiring one of them to oust the speaker.

I’m more pointing out that a split in the majority leaves an opening for the third option. More the house speaker and less the presidency.
