A note for probably incoming comments: If it is going to repeat itself here, we are forced to disallow such posts at all, to keep c/reddit at least civilized.

To be fair, the guillotine was a step too far so the admins intervened rightly in my opinion.

You make it sound like it was a death threat and not a metaphor for the death of Reddit.

A better way to get the metaphor across would have been the guillotine blade be labeled Spez instead.

The way it was made caused some people think it was saying “death to Spez” and not “death to reddit”

I admit I didn’t interpret it correctly then, if the metaphor that you describe is the intention.

Still I think it’s pretty easy to interpret it the wrong way without the adjustments you described.

That’s how I interpreted it, indeed. That may be my dark personality but I assume it’s a pretty common interpretation.

It’s not a dark personality to misinterpret things. It’s just a poor grasp of the finer aspects of communication.

For instance, Kathy Griffin made a controversial video holding a bloodied severed head of Trump, who was the US president at the time. That rightfully received a lot of backlash for being in poor taste. Making death threats against the president of the United States in a serious crime, however she was not arrested because it was correctly not seen as a threat by the law enforcement.

I’m with you. Imagine if everyone decided to draw gore there, regardless if it had anything to do with spez, it’s just kind of inappropriate and feels really childish, in my opinion.

Not gore itself, but the choice to draw it on a public canvas out of prettyness. Did someone ruin your favorite internet spot? Well boohoo… It was free and you’re entitled to lose it just like any service. Get over it.

And by all means go ahead and downvote this comment, doing that just proves Lemmy is headed for a similar future of hive mind culture.

There were plenty videos posted showing that reddit admins were using some tool that was just putting random patterns over it (they didn’t even bother to make it look real, so it appeared all at once)

People who are engaging with it as a form a protest are just dumb. Reddit has full control over it so they can remove anything they don’t like instantly.

Those massive regions of untouched plain colour on the country flags are pretty telling. In previous years you’d never get that, they’d be in constant flux. The fact they can be so stable suggests to me that there’s a lot less activity this time around. I’d be interested to see if there’s any hard data anyone has about pixels/min or anything like that.

Is there some technical difficulties in creating this in lemmy? I thought I would see alternatives by now

Its little bit difficult to integrate it into lemmy. Otherwise there are many website that is like r/place but most of them are crap

I could imagine like a post where its like a 1000x1000 canvas and everyone can color a pixel with commenting like

          x:y HEXCOLOR

and it creates that pixel on the canvas and reupload it.

Yeah but people want to click the point on the canvas to interact with it. Its possible it just needs to be the authority on pixel placing to keep track of whose on cooldown and such.

Yeah but that requires a off site website. And i imagined a inside lemmy c/place event-

I like people having fun instead of complaining which won’t work sadly. Just have fun then I’d say.

Wow Reddit can openly and unapologetically shit on their community and they continue to support the site. All of the “fuck spez” content is gone, and they’re doing exactly what Reddit wanted in the first place, keeping it corporate and advertiser friendly. What a sad community that can’t even defend themselves, this is why the state of things are getting so much worse.

Lemmy.ml has a slur filter and b!tch is on there. Not only is it a slur folter but it’s apparently the kind of implementation that people always use as an example of how not to do a filter. If you type something on it we will all see it as “removed”. If @DarkGamer says it, you see “removed”, I (kbin) see the actual word.

I found some old posts complaining about it and apparently some people trying to write St@rdew were having it come out as “S removed ew”. Not sure if that one’s still there but I put the symbols in just in case.
