That sucks buddy, genuinely sorry to hear you’ve had such a bad experience. Glad you are able to be social on here, at least.
Agreed, I don’t know why people worry about pills changing their personality, so long as it’s changed for the better.
Simulator checks out lol
tbh I think it’s probably more of an autism / social anxiety thing but many people with ADHD have more than one disorder, so i thought it was still relatable, at least for some people.
You must might want to check out [email protected]. I started it recently to help people identify and report disinformation on the platform.
I’m not suggesting study bias, but I am suggesting that Chinese citizens’ social media and internet use is now so closely monitored by the CPP that it has a chilling effect on free speech, and this may have influenced the results even if they were told the study was anonymous.
Secondly, since Xi took power, according to that same report, he has “effectively sidelined functional and professional institutions of party and state”, in addition to removing term limits. These are all classic authoritarian strongman moves. The study goes on to point out that having an effective authoritarian as leader - one who has helped improve the lives of many Chinese citizens - is of course going to be popular. The old saying goes that a benevolent dictatorship is the best form of government, and that may be true in some regards, right up until the point it isn’t benevolent anymore. Which is more or less inevitable imo.
It couldn’t possibly be that people are too scared to criticize the CCP, right? … right?
The Myth That Protein Reduces Bone Health
Despite all the calcium that dairy contains, some believe that its high protein content can cause osteoporosis.
The reason is that when protein is digested, it increases the acidity of the blood. The body then pulls calcium from the blood to neutralize the acid.
This is the theoretical basis for the acid-alkaline diet, which is based on choosing foods that have a net alkaline effect and avoiding foods that are “acid forming.”
However, there really isn’t much scientific support for this theory.
If anything, the high protein content of dairy is a good thing. Studies consistently show that eating more protein leads to improved bone health (4, 5, 6, 7).
Not only is dairy rich in protein and calcium, it’s also loaded with phosphorus. Full-fat dairy from grass-fed cows also contains some vitamin K2.
Protein, phosphorus and vitamin K2 are all very important for bone health (8, 9).
Summary
Not only is dairy rich in calcium, it also contains large amounts of protein and phosphorus, all of which are important for optimal bone health.

We definitely shouldn’t normalise this sort of surveillance, whether it’s simply for advertising or for more nefarious purposes. China already banned apps like Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter, so was that due to anglophobia or is it ok when China does it, but not when the US does it?
I agree with you on some level - it’s definitely not cool to only focus on TikTok, because these surveillance machines are IMO all equally problematic. But most Lemmy users have a dim view of all mainstream social media apps because they all suck with regards to user privacy. But is TikTok hated on more than Threads or Facebook? I really don’t think so. And the narrative that any criticism of the Chinese state must be sinophobic is total bullshit. The Chinese state is just as sleazy and authoritarian as any other large nation state. They all deserve criticism when they use these digital panopticons for political purposes.
Those eyes are definitely saying, “How could you do this to me?”
The only unique (I think?) thing about phone link is that it enables you to use your Android phone camera as a webcam, which can be handy if you don’t have a quality webcam. I think its only in the beta version though.
From the article:
Mr. Wardle’s curiosity was piqued by recent news that Russian spies had used Kaspersky antivirus products to siphon classified documents off the home computer of an N.S.A. developer, and may have played a critical role in broader Russian intelligence gathering.
From the “recent news” article mentioned above:
Government officials, who would speak of the classified details of the case only on condition of anonymity, said that Mr. Pho took the classified documents home to help him rewrite his resume. But he had installed on his home computer antivirus software made by Kaspersky Lab, a top Russian software company, and Russian hackers are believed to have exploited the software to steal the documents, the officials said.
Honestly, I agree, it’s a serious accusation against Kaspersky with very scant details and allegations made by off-the-record “officials”. Having said that, just because they didn’t present any compelling evidence doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. In the words of Carl Sagan, “Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.” I’m not sure where that leaves us though lol. Honestly, I don’t trust Kaspersky with my data any less that with any of the other big antivirus companies. I guess it makes sense they would want antivirus software with CIA/NSA backdoors over alternatives though :p

This dude is getting legitimately downvoted for JAQing off. Also, his home instance is explicitly anti-corporate and anarchist, so defending right wing billionaires is against our rules. You are correct that Lemmy is generally left of centre, depending on the instance, so JAQing in defense of billionaire assholes is never gonna go down well.
It also varies by profession and/or position in some countries. Managers and “professionals” on higher salaries will often be paid monthly, whereas “ordinary” employees would usually get paid weekly or bi-weekly. Personally, I think it’s a tacit acknowledgement that it’s much harder to budget for a whole month on lower rates of pay.
I don’t know what to tell ya, I don’t find the word that rhymes with “hanky” offensive at all, especially when it’s applied to someone who seems to fit the bill. I think the main difference between MLs and liberals is that liberals are well aware their governments are flawed and are willing and able to criticize them and protest against bad policies, whereas the MLs are dedicated to the idea that it’s wrong to criticize non-Western governments, because “left unity”, “critical support” etc. This, despite the fact (or maybe because of it) that most of the governments they defend are totalitarian states where government criticism lands you in jail, in a re-education camp, or falling out of a window. This quote sums it up nicely:
Authoritarians, having argued so doggedly for the domination of a paternalistic state and having therefore turned themselves into ideological infants, then develop a hyper-reductive view of geopolitics; precisely the one, in fact, that a state would like for them to have. “Socialism” becomes pathologically confused with “opposing capitalist nations” or more appropriately, “opposing all states aligned with the United States.” They attempt to simplify the struggles of the entire planet down into two camps, the “bad guy imperialist states” and the “good guy anti-imperialist states.” In doing so, worker emancipation is simplified into a single question: “do you support the imperialists or the anti-imperialists?” Woe be to those who do not submit to their reductive understanding. The statists who advocate this position are completely incapable of even understanding what an “anti-imperialist” entity might look like. They, in fact, simply support one imperialist bloc over the other in a battle of two power-hoarders.
There a whole article about Russian disinformation on this topic here. They certainly did have a pact with the Nazis. Your argument is basically “it didn’t happen, but if it did then it the West forced us into it” which is a 100% classic disinformation line. It’s like when Putin says there is no war with Ukraine, but if there is it’s because the West forced us to do it.
