Am a middle eastern civilian, how do I enlist?
Apparently it’s the former. Their prosecution rate is 8% apparently according to Wikipedia, because they’re too understaffed to deal with cases that can go either way. They also have a false confession problem, but that’s not what’s getting them to that rate.
So of course in the end it should come down to what you want to do and where you see yourself living a happier life, and not what people on the internet think you should do. However, purely from a “making the world a better place” perspective, I’d recommend not returning. I get the idea of trying to change society from within, but frankly I think Israel in its current state is beyond saving. The sense of invincibility, among other issues, is too much for simple activism to fix; the country as a whole needs the Nazi Germay treatment (the de-Nazification part, not the war part). At least by not being in Israel you make sure your tax money and children aren’t used in genocide.
I repeat, do what you feel is best for you, but to directly answer your question your absence does more to weaken the Israeli Apartheid apparatus than your presence. Do vote though; definitely vote.
Will Hamas stop if Isreal does?
If Israel stops its apartheid and ethnic cleansing? Certainly.
I mean yes but it’s diminishing returns. The rule kind of falls apart at these numbers.
So nothing about the claim Biden just made?
Then where’s the evidence? Biden lost his credibility the moment he said he saw pictures of the 40 dead babies.
I’ve never used a Mac but my experience with iPhones and iPads (not mine) has convinced me to never touch anything Apple makes. The requirement of iTunes to send files between an iPhone and a PC is, for example, just ridiculous.
car makers just jack up their prices so they make more off the subsidy
Exactly.
Really we should be subsidizing EVs from our own manufacturers.
You are. Still not doing much to corporate greed.
I mean no, but the people with meteorology degrees are probably not gonna be working a job where the number one requirement is to be hot (and not, y’know, have a meteorology degree).
Yeah. The protests aren’t because Bibi’s actions are too right-wing; they’re because even as a far-right leader he’s doing a shit job. Him being a genocidal far right leader isn’t, as a rule, an issue with the general Israeli public.
There are protests against Bibi because of his disregard for the hostages’ lives and attempt to destroy Israeli democracy. His party isn’t losing support AFAIK, and the right wing is actually growing.
I mean yes but at least in the US the latter two are overwhelmingly more common.
This would be slightly more believable if Rabin wasn’t assassinated and Netanyahu didn’t basically tear up the Oslo accords.
But that doesn’t mean I have to think Hamas are the good guys.
Okay Hamas are not good guys, not at all. While I don’t think persecuting war criminals is viable in Gaza even if they wanted to, even setting that aside they have a lot of not very good deeds under their belt. That said, they can’t be blamed for taking hostages. It sucks for them and their families, no doubt about that, but on the other hand we have 2mil+ people’s lives at stake. The hostages, and the Israeli administration’s blatant disregard for their lives, have been a decisive issue in pitting the Israeli public against the government. They’re also Hamas’s only card in negotiations, or in other words the only currency Hamas has to pay for Gazan lives and “freedom”. It sucks that lives are being used as currency, but that’s a case of don’t blame the player, blame the game. Of course the actual treatment of hostages during and after October 7th is a different story and there’s some Hague-worthy nonsense there, but the statement “Hamas took hostages on October 7th” has nothing indictable on its own.
It did. The IDF was made from Jewish paramilitaries like Haganah and Irgun that existed way before 1948, and were made into/declared a formal army on 26 May 1948, or four days after the massacre.
You’re also missing the fact that regardless of the target, the attack was launched from a civilian structure.
So:
1-All above-ground structures in Gaza are civilian structures. Do you think Israel would allow Hamas to have an above-ground military base?
2-It was launched 350m from a civilian shelter. In Rafah, one of the most overcrowded cities on Earth. It’s a surprise there’s a place that far from a civilian shelter.
Also actually read the comment and post before replying.
Much appreciated.
