So, technically there was an anti-furry protest that was reacting to misinformation. But there were never any furries.

“Sort by controversial” is just complaining about being hidden due to downvotes. It also doesn’t make sense for multiple reasons. They’ve already seen your comment, you’re upvoted, you’re not necessarily going to get downvotes due to a nuanced conversation, Lemmy isn’t usually busy enough to be buried in comments, etc.

You can say it’s a controversial subject without victimizing yourself.

I don’t disagree with you, necessarily. It’s an incredibly grey issue and one of the few issues that the left shouldn’t be as absolutist about and have a conversation. And beyond that, it’s so low on the list of priorities. Even for trans people themselves I can’t imagine this is high on the list.

Usually you have to forego “fair” if you want to be “balanced”. And vice-versa.

Well, the past 4 years we’ve let the GOP spread the propaganda that Biden has ruined the economy, despite global costs rising, a global recession that we somehow avoided, corporate greed, state governments increasing regressive sales tax, and Trump era tax breaks for the rich.

Progressives have been angry with Biden for not somehow forcing the Republicans (or Manchin) to do what he wants, despite the fact that we avoided a Republican driven attempt to put the U.S. into default.

Biden has been criticized for his handling of the student debt despite the fact that he has used very clever workarounds to push as much out as possible.

Biden has been attacked for being both open border and his ridiculous restrictions on immigrants when public support for increased border security is at an all time high. No way to win there.

He is judged for being old, despite being extremely knowledgeable and often times clever about how he handles Republican hurdles.

People need to look at his resume. He’s probably the best president we’ve had in 50 years. But the news only cares that he tripped on a sandbag and there’s a line of people at the border (since they reduced the number of entry points but we don’t talk about that or the natural disasters that have sent people here).

If you want to secure rights, you need a big enough liberal majority to override conservative Democrats. It’s that simple. It’s not the Democrats taking your rights. Vote blue otherwise you’re just helping to take away rights.

Some reasons:

They want THEIR side to win. If their side has the power, then the other side doesn’t.

Alpha-Beta dynamic. If they submit to an authority (government, religion, boss, etc) then that means they can do whatever to who they think they have authority over (women, blacks, gays, poor, etc).

Stupidity. Some people need to be told what is good and bad. They literally cannot figure it out on their own or they are too lazy to do so.

It’s been a minute since I saw Black Panther. But didn’t they shoehorn Martin Freeman’s character to add some white diversity as a token white guy?

They have repeatedly deemed that states can overrule the federal government when it’s the federal government’s jurisdiction. They have repeatedly deemed the constitution is not enforceable. They have deemed that if they can argue vagueness in wording, it is either all encompassing or entirely non-binding based on the political leanings of issue. They have taken null cases with hypothetical damages in order to make rulings. The 3 Trump appointees deemed Roe v Wade settled law before overturning it.

To go the other way, her tax bracket is a lot higher than the base salary alone would be. And if it’s $1m in a year, almost all of that will be in the highest bracket.

I think the problem is even for people who have followed it, he’s still funding his genocide. I think Biden had helped with the bombing pause and hostage release. But since then, his attempts to rein Bibi in have fallen flat and he’s given a blank check.

You make a good point about what if he stop supporting them and they are attacked. Israel is just as much a victim as Gaza. That would pretty quickly turn back around on Biden from a political perspective too.
