Elon:
Guys, I think I’ve got it… What if we built another lane but, you know, under the ground, like a tunnel.
At this point I think Elon might know more about management than anyone currently alive on Earth!
On a serious note, the problem with wind turbines is not the total number of birds they strike but the species. Larger birds of prey seem particularly susceptible. Tough this risk can be easily mitigated by not placing the wind turbines directly in their primary habitat or migration paths.
And that is despite reddit banning a ton of NSFW subreddits over the past few years (or setting them to private).
Is there free will? Are we all living in the matrix? questions…
I don’t know if deflation itself is that harmful or if it’s just a symptom of economic troubles, i.e. lack of demand. In any case, if it persists, that’s not a good outlook for the Chinese economy.
You have to be delusional if you think that a military coup orchestrated by Russia benefits anyone but a few corrupt elites. Your kneejerk reaction is nothing but cutting of your nose to spite your face. The French are certainly no saints but between military dictators, jihadist terrorists and Russian warlords they are one of the better actors in the region. If you unironically call the current state a French colony you must be lost deep in the Russian propaganda rabbit hole.
I think Ukrainians are past the stage of mere “anger”.
Imagine having a “president” with less freedom to travel than Kim Jong Un.
Just wait until the next currency crisis hits and the Pound falls below Euro parity. Since the introduction of the Euro in 2000 the Pound has already lost almost 30% of its value in a direct comparison and could not recover since the Brexit vote.
I think I could have stomached the API changes and the end for Apollo/RIF. But the AMA and the reaction to the protests made me so incredibly upset and revealed how reddit gives absolutely zero fucks about its users and community. Huffman despises them. With this mindset there’s no other way but downhill for reddit.
Thickness and weight might have been a serious issue 10 years ago but batteries have reached such high energy densities that the additional volume/weight becomes negligible especially considering how thin most phones already are.
Absolutely, I not some anarchist type who hates corporations out of principle but at this point the enshittification of platforms by large corporations has basically proven to be a natural law of the internet.
I’m somewhat in doubt though whether a decentralized platform run by its users can really keep up with all ongoing developments. Let’s say bots become a problem what about bot detection and banning or what about legal regulatory changes? That being said, reddit devs appear utterly incompetent and somehow they manage. Perhaps in the long run some non-profit organization, something like the Wikimedia Foundation is necessary, at least for individual parts of the network.
Maybe someone with more insights into these topics can share their opinion.
What can I say? I obviously agree or else I wouldn’t be here but vilifying or antagonizing people for not caring enough about this seems silly. The reddit protest is definitely not of such upmost moral importance that there’s any kind of moral obligation for every redditor to join it. I’m sure that there are thousands of relevant issues out there where I have chosen to stay ignorant and neutral because I just can’t fight every struggle at once.
Why? There are a lot of redditors who have never used third party apps and who don’t have any horse in this race. Now I don’t think Reddit’s behavior bodes well for the future of the site but I can fully understand why some users and mods would choose to ignore all this drama. This is also very far from a high stakes “life or death” situation so I don’t think there’s anything akin to a moral obligation to join the protest. At the end of the day, if lemmy offers a better community people will come here.
How come copyright owners are not legally required to distribute their work?
Copyright is supposedly a deal society strikes with creatives: They create art for society and in return the law ensures that they profit off of their original works. If they no longer uphold their end of the bargain how come the rest of us should still uphold their copyright? If they no longer make their works available their copyright should be forfeit automatically.
