  • Humans can have more complex emotions. We can be stressed about theoretical concepts that animals just are not equipped to understand. We can be excited by the prospect of future events.

Most animal emotions are immediate. They enjoy some food they eat, they find a nice warm spot to bask in, they see a predator and run away. Most animals lack the mental capacity to think beyond the immediate.

Most Americans don’t realize that the U.S. is by far the easiest developed country to immigrate to, by a country mile. It’s still an incredibly difficult feat, but our standards are really, really low. For most developed countries, you’ll need to have a specialized, useful education, a significant amount of capital on-hand, a clean bill of health, and you’ll need to learn a new language.

My “plan” for a Trump election is to try and get a student visa to complete my PhD in neuroscience, and then I’ll overstay and escape to the European wilderness as an illegal immigrant. I wouldn’t hold my breath for a promise of asylum.

  • The problem is that it flat out isn’t a space exploration game. Space is more or less a glorified loading zone. You can do some dogfighting if you want, but you’re mostly just going to fast travel from planet to planet while completing modern, bland Bethesda quests.

If you really just love Bethesda games, and have enjoyed your time in Fallout 4 or 76, there’s not anything wrong with it structurally. The gunplay is about as good as the Creation Engine allows, and there’s some actually cool new game+ additions to encourage a replay. The problem is that if you’re someone who saw both of those games as signs of Bethesda faltering, Starfield is your proof that their open-world design is outdated, and their writing can’t compete in the same arena as someone like Larian.

Again, if it was propoganda I think it would be more incendiary. You’re free to go through the information if you wish, and there probably are some juicy secrets somewhere in the mess of files, but my spotcheck made me yawn. If you don’t want to live in a world with no truth, you have to start thinking about the intent of the author. If the intent of the author here was to plant misinformation, or to sow division, then they did a terrible job at it. What little I read gave me no interest in reading more.

A lot of them look legit, mostly because they are boring. I scanned a few, it’s stuff like the air force’s memo on how to deal with press, or a memo alleging a number of Russian cybersecurity attacks on U.S. assets.

If someone was going to fake releasing stuff like this, they probably wouldn’t do it with such boring documents, they’d put some shit about aliens in there.

  • Honestly, I love making friends with people who haven’t experienced some of the really incredible pieces of pop culture, because I get to see them react to seeing something incredible for the first time. Your reaction should never be "omg you’ve never seen this before, what kinda weird alien are you? and more “omg you’ve never seen this before? okay we have to watch it real soon, it’s incredible.”

It’s only really annoying if the person is some kinda incel who has made it a point of pride to be uncultured and refuses to watch or appreciate good movies/TV.
