i wish all city/economy building games had a stronger destruction-by-social/political-means game play elements beyond city/economy building like tropico has in balancing your islands’ political factions from couping or voting you out of office; both internal and world superpower backed rebellions; resource depletion; industry induced pollution; pirate attacks; economy & military crippling crime or corruption in your police, military and government officials; protests escalating into rebellions or economic disruptions; and military invasions & economic sanctions from those superpower countries if you don’t comply sufficiently with their interests.

i know that city skylines includes natural disasters like tropico does and that helps with the appeal to me; but i never tried the other 2. do they have anything like those things i described?

  • turning off voters is the biggest reason why we don’t vote imo in this environment and there’s nothing you can do about shitty choices that the democrats will give us; but there’s things you can do to overcome the other institutional part of it; aka gerrymandering:

setup free voting ride shares with free filling snacks in gerrymandered states that will pick each person up from home; drop them off at their polling station; pick them up from there; and then drop them off at home w/o having to wait for everyone to finish voting. the lines are VERY long and take hours in heavily gerrymandered places like houston texas and people hate voting already; so making them wait or skip dinner to vote is a non-starter.

setup free voting phone number and/or website that will help register you to vote (not just tell you what you need to do) on your behalf and include the option to mail you a pre-filled envelope and stamp if paper registration is required. advertise it HEAVILY on all forms of media everywhere and make it clear it’s not from the government.

then, assign a case worker to every client to ensure that the registration was completed and followup on the problems that gerrymandered places usually create to suppress votes. also get lawyers or people familiar with election laws to file inquiries on each voter’s behalf each time a gerrymandered place manages to find a reason to disqualify a voter or an employer refuses to let them off to vote and use that case worker to manage it.

expect it to fail the first few times because people hate talking about politics so they won’t listen for the first few cycles.

I get what you are saying, but we allready have a prison system focusing on rehabilitation, and it doesn’t phase the gangs.

you’ll never stop the gangs; but you can make it more difficult to operate if it becomes getting harder to find new gang members and less cost effective to retain the ones trapped in their sphere.

By increasing the length of prison sentences, we atleast keep them contained for longer.

that’s what i meant by viable alternatives to their situation; no matter how long you contain them they eventually have to return to their situation and all at great cost.

If you have any other suggestion, please go ahead and tell me.

aggressive outreach is a more effective tactic at combating gangs

he also has a front seat view to this country’s rightward shift and i wonder how frustrating it is to be so close to the levers of power to stop it; but to be blocked both your adversaries and your allies each time you try to reach for them.

In my mind we need heavier punnishment, we need containment punnishments, way longer punnishments for those who are not interested in rehab which our justice system focuses on, after two times caught they need to get an automatic 10x the time normally given. If people are not interested in being part of a working society, then I’d rather they stay locked up.

we do that here; not only does it both not work well and allows people to profit from exacerbating it; it fixes a lot less and costs a lot more than treating it like a societal issue; changing policy; and aggressive outreach.

we’ve also had recidivism rates drop when convicts were given alternatives viable to their situation instead of focusing on the punishment.
