I do similar, except I scan the receipt with my phone and save the file with a name like “Oil 78542” - recording what I did and the mileage. Then I throw the paper away.

Listen
There is only one way to make people talk more than they care to. Listen. Listen with hungry earnest attention to every word. In the intensity of your attention, make little nods of agreement, little sounds of approval. You can’t fake it. You have to really listen. In a posture of gratitude. And it is such a rare and startling experience for them, such a boon to ego, such a gratification of self, to find a genuine listener, that they want to prolong the experience. And the only way to do that is to keep talking. A good listener is far more rare than an adequate lover.

Ewww… I won’t downvote you because I’ve already placed myself on the block to take the hits by mentioning butter in the first place but I really want to.
@qwet
Yea! There you are. But you missed the right spice - US Navy guys swear by salt not pepper (obviously, Naval coffee is dredged from the bilge). Thank you for showing your true colors so I can ridicule you ;)
@qwet I came here looking for the freak who said “butter” so I could mash the downvote button but I can’t find him. Go ahead and downvote me in his stead because that idea simply deserves it.
If you like his writing go to his website http://craphound.com and read some of his books. He has some good stuff - been following him for years.
@Haus I’m less concerned about the potential for homeowner’s mis-use and much more concerned about that data being outside the control of the person who installed it. Personally, I like my smart home stuff to be self-hosted and self-contained and if I ever choose to share it that will be 100% my choice.

I, for myself, would appreciate if there was a way to block all #bots in the #fediverse. I don’t find it to be too bad on kbin/lemmy but OMG, the #mastodon federated feed is mostly bots - I’ve been blocking entire domains left and right trying to clean it up.
I’m a /refugee here but I think that this place is different…we get/discover ideas by sharing, boosting and speaking to things that we care about not by giving/taking karma points in this place. That paradigm is dead.
How can I follow Christian on this kbin platform? I’ve only just joined and don’t know my way around but I feel confident that if he lands on a platform he likes I will like it too so I want to follow after tomorrow.

My family put us to the church as kids as little as needed to prove that they exposed us to it. I thank them for that minimal exposure because I’ve always felt agnostic (of course, that was verbalized as atheism as a kid). My mom was raised German christian, my dad was raised Quaker.
I think that the most meaningful lessons I learned about religion were from my father (who never once mentioned god, Jesus or the church).
My father’s religion was one of acceptance of all others, refusal of indoctrination to any structured religion and an absolute knowledge that men (and women) make their faith and their covenant to each other, not to a church. Thanks, dad!
