We always hear about song lyrics that we deeply connect to on a personal level, but what about ones that are the opposite of your experiences and/or vibe? I’ll start first:

“I got money in the bank.”

“🎶I’m proud to be an American🎶” from the self-titled song.

Don’t get me wrong - I really want that song to be relatable again, but right now and for many years it hasn’t been.

Oof. If it’s any consolation, I’m cringing with you across time and space.

I was in high school and then college during that era, so I guess I was lucky to avoid the forced patriotism.

Yeah, we did those shenanigans too. The pledge wasn’t as obnoxious as making a bunch of redneck fourth graders sing Lee Greenwood at the top of their lungs.

“Where at least I know I am free I stand up, next to you…”

That song is so goofy that me and my friends (we are third worlders) put it up ironically while playing minecraft and sing along with an american accent and the lyrics are ingrained to my brain for that reason.
