Given that that is when I am normally awake because I work night shift, that would be very annoying.
Beyond the ridiculous social effects and lack of access to information, including in emergencies, it would make international collaboration impossible. Bye bye Australia, it was nice knowing you.
One of those ideas that emerges from a complete failure to understand structures as opposed to individual actions. Stomp on the thing I don’t like. Reminds me of KOSA.
Honestly, this is just a random ass question to generate discussion like if that were to even happen.
It’s not like, something I’m 'advocating ’ for…
I think you need some chamomile tea
I didn’t accuse you of advocating for it. You didn’t explain why you posted the thread or say a single word about what you thought. Which is why my comments were not addressed to you.
Maybe you should try that tea?
I’m down if you’re down
Pornhub crashing at 7am
8pm thru 12am is prime time for streaming. Netflix would need to pivot or go out of business.
Since most phones networks now operate over IP, overnight customer service would break. The US can no longer use call centers in India for daytime call centers.
Batch jobs requiring Internet access can no longer run overnight. Instead they would need to run during the day, tying up bandwidth and CPU for other users. System engineers would need to take this into consideration.
It would be more difficult to coordinate with friends when going out at night. You could no longer order an Uber at 2am if you’re drunk off your ass. DWI events would increase.
I’d have to start watching porn earlier in the day.
Think global. Act local.
you can always download stuff
Disaster. It’s not just personal communication that uses the internet, it’s banking, research, security, all sorts of infrastructure things that you don’t necessarily interact with directly.
I’d get some sleep.
Some people would go to bed earlier.
People would use VPNs of some sort to get connectivity from the other regions.
Humans are stupid and will ignore outage information and warnings no matter how they are communicated.
So much more things happen over the internet then you realise, not just websites. You are effectively killing telephones, that means no 911/112/000/999 calls can happen. No banking transactions, most card machines work over mobile internet now so no paying for things with cards, cash only.
Well what about if we allow phones to stay working, what would be the effect? Every ISP help desk would get flooded with calls asking why their internet is not working, when it will be fixed, and why they weren’t told about it.
But surely people will realise over time it happens and the calls will stop right? No, see my first paragraph.
Source: I work in IT and worked for an ISP for 8 years. People are stupid.

If you shut off the local Internet overnight, then half the world wouldn’t be able to communicate with the other half.
Nobody would correct invalid usage of Affects at night :)
Occasional memes about the internet curfew. And less multiplayer-only games.
I wouldn’t be able to track busses or trains to plan my commute home after work. I wouldn’t be able to stream music while making my kids’ breakfast and lunches before school.
Which timezone?
All of them
Then international cooperation would be almost impossible. UTC or something wouldn’t be better because then a lot of people wouldn’t be able to work
