God he was so fucking funny. It was a legit travesty when he let the mask slip and showed us he was actually a huge prick that shouldn’t be supported.

I mean, it’s still a place I’d tell people to go visit. The bars/restaurants are awesome, and the (not so distant) history is sobering. I found the Stasi museum hella interesting/terrifying.
I’d just mentally prep people before-hand for the, ah, “bluntness” 😂
My friend and I just assumed he could tell we were American and didn’t want to serve us. We didn’t stick around to ask. And he didn’t tell us off or to leave or anything, but just more blatantly ignored us.
Like I said, overall still good time. Everyone else was nice and happy enough to chat/serve us (or at least appeared to be lmao)
I’m white af, but, as an American, I didn’t get treated as rudely anywhere else in Germany than Berlin. Still had a great time overall in the city, but, not really in a rush to go back.
My friend and I were standing at a bar mulling over the menu, just kind of murming to one another over what drinks we wanted while we were waiting for the bartender to finish up with his other customers. It wasn’t busy, but he was attending to other people. When he was finally done, he approached us and I said “Hi how are you?” with a smile. He didn’t say a single word to us, just took the menus from in front of us and put them on the back shelf, and then turned away.
So we left. Our money clearly wasn’t good enough there, and we spent it in another bar across the alleyway instead.
Yeah after I posted the comment, I was reading through other people’s, and someone pointed this exact difference out. This take makes full sense to me!!!
I just made a comment about this too! The “male” and “female” vernacular is alive and well in the US military as well!
I have such a weird take on this, due to being in the military for so long. We absolutely do refer to one another as “males” and “females”.
Ie. “There was a female SSgt that was really helpful in customer service” or “I had to remind a male Soldier to put on his cover when he left the building” or “I had a female troop once”.
However, I try really hard when I’m speaking to a non-military member to switch up my phrasing. Sometimes I still slip up, and I gotta be like “shit, sorry, I mean that woman cashier over there” or whatever it is that I’m talking about.
I will say though, I do distinctly remember having that conversation during basic training, and fucking hating being referred to as “female” in the beginning, and that thought being shared amongst my flightmates. I can still hear the TIs shouting from across the parking lot: “GET OVER HERE RIGHT NOW, FE-MALE!” Ugh.
It was just 16 years ago now, so “female” has become normalized.
This is my answer too! I can never decide if I liked Prague or Brussels more!
Both highly underrated places to visit for Americans imo.
I have a huge crush on Charlie Day as well! I think I’d take him as Dr. Newt Geizsler from Pacific Rim tho. While I am usually like “Daw I love Charlie” in IASIP, there’s something about him wearing winter underwear with socks that’s an immediate turn off. 😂
She was a stray we picked up back in 2016, and all of these 8 years later, I’ve never gotten a blep pic! Meanwhile, two days with the boarder…
I will pass along that you think she’s a good girl! (I in fact refer to her as a terror constantly)
That…is the cutest cotton ball I’ve ever seen. Homigod.
I don’t believe this…still side eyed my husband tho.
I wish I lived where you live. That sounds fucking awesome.
Right?!?!?! Ugh, reason number 1860 why I hate living in Texas! Lemme go back East!
Omg I love her! She’s so cute! Thank you for taking care of her!!!
Bro, honestly, you shouldn’t let a few people arguing about a meme online stop you from respecting the women who are actually in your life.
Door holding for the people behind you is respectful no matter if they’re a man or a woman. I think most people hold the door if they’re paying attention.
But stopping a conversation from going off the rails in a sexist/derogatory manner? Bruh you could be the difference in one woman’s life from her feeling the full relatability to this meme.
That turning on the light in the car at night was illegal because it would cause a glare on the windshield.
I believed this into my mid-20s when my husband corrected me with a fuckton of teasing and incredulity.
Meh, this isn’t really dystopian imo, they provide a really good service. They will provide limited mental health/crisis counseling to you (regardless of faith/lack therof), with no written documentation. Unless you’re telling them you plan to actively hurt yourself or someone else, then they’re 100% confidential.
The military has gotten better in recent years about this, but when I was a young Airman 15 years ago, it was drilled into our heads that you DO NOT go to Mental Health for ANY reason if you wanted to stay in and keep your career. It was viewed as an instant career killer if you went back then.So Chaplains became the “go between” in a lot of instances. Because there was no record.
I used them 3 or 4 times before I finally bit the bullet and went to Mental Health back in December. 3 of the 4 Chaplains I saw were awesome and just listened to my anxieties and then talked me down as to how unlikely they were to pass. The fourth did ask me if he could pray for me at the end, and I’m sure I could have said no, but I was more like “Sure, I guess.” So he said some kind of generic prayer, handed me a pocket bible and sent me on my way. He wasn’t bad, still listened to my issue, but I could see someone who is very uncomfortable with prayer being too nervous/anxious to say “no” if they didn’t really want it.
I read this in Grog’s voice and I high key love it. The idea of him describing “surface level themes such as nationalism” is hilarious.
And the title comment is the icing on the cake.
